Rusty, a world-traveled artist, studied Art at Asbury University, Wilmore, Kentucky. She lived eleven years in Italy with her husband and two children. She taught creative drawing in America and Italy, in English and Italian. In America, Rusty has taught students from elementary school and homeschoolers to adults in the Community College setting. She is currently a teacher for the Lifelong Learning program for Central Arizona College teaching Beginning Drawing and Portraits.
She has written a drawing journal, Drawing in the Light of Scripture, An Inspirational Tool for the Christian Artist.
Rusty works in graphite, Colored Pencil, water soluble Colored Pencil, charcoal, conte and Silverpoint.
Rusty has won various awards. She is a member of the Portrait Artists of Arizona, Vice Chairman and Artist in Residence for the San Tan Valley Substance Abuse Coalition (STVSAC), and is the STVSAC liaison to the Coolidge Performing Arts Center.
While specilizing in portraits, my greatest joy is not in only making marks on a surface that clearly captures the likeness of a person, but in capturing someone so the viewer says: “Oh, my goodness!” then the heart and soul of the subject jumps out to greet you!
