Artist Bio or Statement / Bio de l’artiste ou la déclaration
Karen is an Australian full-time artist and illustrator, who took up art later in life after 25 years of nursing and raising her family of four sons. It was during a family holiday to Tasmania 7 years ago where she visited the numerous wonderful galleries, that her love for art and drawing was rekindled. Initially drawn to miniature art, she was accepted as an Exhibiting Member of the Australian Society of Miniature Art (NSW) and won Best Watercolour and Best in Show in her first year of exhibiting. Since then, she has won numerous awards and her artworks can be found in collections around the world.
Karen specialises in coloured pencil artworks and describes her style as realistic with a twist, as many of her works have a narrative quality with a dash of humour added for good measure. She is in constant demand for commissions and illustration work and also writes and sells a range of comprehensive art tutorials from her website at www.karenhullart.com. She is a member of the Australian Guild of Realism Artists, the Coloured Pencil Society of America and the International Society of Scratchboard Artists. Her first children’s book Let’s Count Kisses was published in May 2012 and she is currently working on her second book.
