Joanne Abbott is a Canadian artist working in graphite and colour pencil, as well as watercolour and acrylic. She started her career as a Physiotherapist but 15 years ago , she was introduced to decorative painting which led to an appreciation for the visual arts. While living in Whitecourt , Alberta she was able to take a few workshops with notable artists in watercolour and pastel . She started commissioned work in graphite and coloured pencil, mostly portraits, winning the Jean Stephenson award at the Alberta Wide Juried exhibition 1999 for her piece, “Newborn Slumber”, which was one of her first coloured pencil drawings.. In 2000 she moved to Temiscaming , Quebec, where her focus was on family life and it was not until 2011 that she resumed drawing and painting with a renewed passion and vigour. Joanne’s art reflects her love of nature and her appreciation of both its simplicity and complexity. Joanne presently works from her studio producing art work in a variety of mediums and has recently resumed commissioned work in coloured pencil and graphite.
