Artist Bio or Statement / Bio de l’artiste ou la déclaration
In the small rural town of Perry, Oklahoma, roots run deep here for Gayla Salvati. Her work in graphite is taken from right outside her back door and depicts animals that she interacts with every day in their natural environment. Her art is inspired by where she lives and her life and work. Daily interaction with animals has given her the real life appreciation of anatomy and form that can only be gotten with hands on experience.
“I have always loved animals and my fascination has been reproducing them as realistically as possible. I enjoy observing them in their own environments and trying to capture that special moment that expresses a movement or personality that makes a piece of art work special. I love rendering animals in graphite. This allows me to capture the tiniest detail with the realism that pleases me. I want the observer to feel as if they can reach out and touch the softness of the fur or the tangles in a mane.
“I really enjoy completely losing myself as I work on a piece and I find a great deal of personal satisfaction when I am able to share to results of my work.”
