Artist Bio or Statement / Bio de l’artiste ou la déclaration

Having come to art rather late in life, I was glad to discover a style that expresses my somewhat quirky nature very quickly. I call my work ‘stylized surrealism’, but I would be hard-pressed to define or even explain that term. The realization that faces could share eyes was a ‘light-bulb’ experience for me, and as I explored the concept on paper, my delight in the endless possibilities kindled a desire to express the vagaries of human nature in a way that was entirely new to me and which gives me great pleasure.

Coloured pencils, because of the control they offer, the ease of set-up, the cleanliness, and many more wonderful characteristics are for me the most satisfactory and desirable of all media. My current challenge is to infuse the shared eyes and half-faces with different, perhaps opposing, expressions and emotions, revealing the inner conflicts that are common to us all.

I do single faces as well, and occasionally try my hand at other things, but the ‘multiples’ remain my favourite subject.
