Artist Bio or Statement / Bio de l’artiste ou la déclaration

A mere stick of graphite, encased in wood, leaves marks on a piece of paper and there you have it. A drawing! The tones range from almost white to black. Coloured pencils also have a limitless range of colour and blended effects. The pressure and angles of such marks on my paper arranged to look like something recognizable is my pleasure and sometimes a challenge in a good way.

I’m a traditionalist at heart and gravitate towards heritage buildings and photo realism. I’m drawn (forgive the pun!) to details of textures and colours of things we often by pass, like the pebbles underfoot, or the texture of a petal.

I generally pick an area and work at it until it’s finished, moving on to the next area then carefully adjusting shadow and highlight until I’m happy with the result. My aim is to have an almost photographic representation while capturing the essence of the subject.
