Artist Bio or Statement / Bio de l’artiste ou la déclaration
A native of Repentigny, Quebec, Alexandra Bastien has had a passion for the visual arts from an early age. Her fascination for drawing, skulls and for the representation of the human body are the main source of her inspiration and creativity. In 2004, she graduated from the MAP (Multidisciplinary Arts Program) of the School of Fine Arts of the Saidye Bronfman Centre in Montreal.
Regular participation in exhibitions and competitions outside of Quebec, including Toronto, London, Paris, Bristol, Cambridge, Nuneaton, New York, Albuquerque, Los Angeles, Covington and Chantenay, has given Alexandra opportunity to broaden her horizons and to interact with other artists. In the past year, she was the recipient of numerous awards and honours, including the UKCPS prizes Ann James Massey Award for excellence in drawing, Faber Castell Award for Best of Show and the Derwent award for best human interest.
Since the launching of her latest exhibition, ‘Taming the Beast’, Alexandra’s work can be found in several publications including the book Colored Pencil Treasures: colored pencil masterworks from around the world, The Southwest Art Magazine, The Decover mag, The Artist’s Magazine and the Art Renewal Exhibition catalog 2012.
